When you’re vacationing with the whole family, accommodating the needs of the children and
entertaining them is an important part to make the holiday enjoyable for everybody. Here are
some places around Europe that are kid-friendly and are also partially educational that the
whole family could enjoy.
All around London are tons of museums that kids and adults would learn a lot from. There is the National History Museum; the Imperial War Museum which features the history of war and
conflict starting from World War 1 and how it affects today’s society; the London Transport Museum that explores the history of the public transportation system in London.
You can also go back in time by visiting the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge, then visit the world’s largest museum of applied and decorative arts the Victoria and Albert Museum named after Queen Victoria
and Prince Albert. For something fun and quirky, dive right into pop culture by visiting the Harry Potter: Warner Brothers Studio Tour and check out the actual film sets, props, and costumes used during the filming of the movie.
Even though this city capital is very hilly and compact, Edinburgh still has a lot to offer for the kids that would visit. Take the tour around the very famous Edinburgh Castle, then relive the joys of childhood by checking out the Museum of Childhood that showcases four floors of vintage toys and games.
If you’re in Edinburgh in August, you can also check out the Fringe Festival which is the largest celebration of arts and culture in the world, an event that lasts for three weeks and has over 50,000 performances.
Aside from the delicious food and the bikeable paths that Amsterdam has to offer, other fun activities for kids include: the NEMO Science Museum which offers hands-on exhibits for the visitors; the Van Gogh Museum that holds the largest collection of Van Gogh’s work and the Anne Frank Museum for those interested in history.
Prague, Czech Republic
Just like the whole city’s vibe, the activities available in Prague are also very simple and laidback. True to traditional Czech entertainment, the National Marionette Theater still holds traditional puppet shows, while the Black Light Theater combines the elements of dance, animation, mimes and illusion to create a unique show for all ages. Have your kids play and run around freely at the Children’s Island, an outdoor playground dedicated to kids with a comfortable waiting area for the adults to have coffee in.
Check out the Chocolate Museum that features chocolate monument replicas and delicious souvenirs or the CosmoCaixa for interactive science exhibits, a mini rainforest and a planetarium. It’s never too early to inspire your kids, so how about a stop along one of Gaudi’s famous designs?
You can also spark your little one’s imagination and creativity with the Museum of Ideas and Inventions then cap off the day, with a visit the Fountain of Montjuic for a display of dancing, magic fountains.
