Travel may seem like a far off dream for some people but there’s never been a more perfect time to make it happen, thanks to travel promos and a few lifestyle changes. Just like other New Year’s resolutions, planning to travel more this year will require you to commit and make some sacrifices along the way. Below, we share some tips on how you too can travel more this year:
Start a travel fund
It all begins with savings! Put aside a portion of your monthly paycheck towards a travel fund, the same way you would for your utility bills, rent or groceries. It doesn’t have to be a big amount, it’s better to do it consistently by starting with something small than nothing at all.
Shift your perspective
Most of us see travel as something luxurious or exclusive, especially if it involves international travel. However, it’s not as unattainable as you think – if you can sacrifice at least one Starbucks run or dinner date per week, then you’ll have something to add towards your travel fund. Also take note that you don’t have to go far to travel, there are destinations worth discovering both within our own shores and outside of it.
Some debit and credit card companies will reward you with points that you can convert to airline miles, so choose your bank wisely. Check out their loyalty program and see which card will fit your travel lifestyle. You can also sign up for airline loyalty programs, just make sure that your package will allow you to fly on their entire airline alliance and not just one particular airline. This way it will be more effective and flexible for your travel needs.
Look for promos and deals
Sign up for airline’s newsletters or follow their social media pages. You can also follow tourism departments, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies and travel bloggers, so you can keep track of updates through different mediums.
Get a side gig
These days it’s easy to earn from multiple sources of income. Even those who are regular employees can make good use of your skills! Love writing? Try your hand with freelance work. Are you a talented artist? Sell your artworks online. Into photography? Offer your services to potential clients. There are many opportunities for you if you’re willing to take the leap.
