How to Experience The Best of Turkey
- November 13, 2019
Turkey is a vibrant, exciting destination, famous for its playful East meets West energy and its breathtaking attractions. Whether it’s Istanbul’s towering, intricate minarets; Pamukkale’s striking blue pools; or the unique fairy chimneys of Cappadocia, Turkey offers impressive travel moments worth remembering.
Below, we share a few tips on how you can make the most of your trip to Turkey.
Pick your season
Choosing when to go depends on a traveler’s preference, but most travelers choose to go during the spring months of April to June or in autumn from September to November. These months have the best weather, with cooler temperature and manageable crowds. The months of December to February is winter season, while summer, or the months of July and August, is especially busy and warm.
Be there early
Istanbul’s Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia are two of its crowning glories, and most, if not all, of Turkey’s tourists, include these iconic landmarks in their itinerary. Because they’re a tourist favorite, it goes without saying that they’re also two of the busiest attractions in the country.
If you’re the type of traveler who dislikes the crowd, how about sacrificing some of your precious zzz’s and allotting a morning for an early visit to the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sofia? Getting up early won’t be such a bad idea, especially if you get to have Istanbul’s famous landmarks all to yourself.
Go for a drive
You can choose to rent a car and drive it on your own, but if you’re not up for driving, you can also hire a driver to take you around. Having your own means of transportation is especially handy if you want to have more control of your itinerary: stopping for picturesque opportunities, meeting the locals, snacking at your own convenience.
Chase magical moments
When you’re done with Istanbul’s historical and cultural attractions, head to Cappadocia for magical moments.
If you have some extra room in your budget, you can sign up for a hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia’s extraordinary landscape. Dotted with dusty, almost alien-like, fairy chimneys, the view you get from the ride will definitely be memorable and out of this world.
After your epic hot air balloon ride, you can choose to rent a horse and go horseback riding amongst the fairy chimneys. Cappadocia actually translates to “land of the beautiful horses”, home to graceful horses and a terrain perfect for horseback riding. Make sure you go with a reputable tour company who will not only provide horses that are well taken care of, they should also have a group of knowledgeable guides who can take you around the area.
