Korea looks beautiful no matter which season you choose to go, but autumn is definitely a traveler’s favorite. Make sure you check out the spots below to get the most of your vacation this fall:
The palace ground is home to a mix of architecture from the Joseon Dynasty and Western-inspired buildings, a great way to get your sightseeing and autumn spotting in one go. Keep an eye out for the 500-year-old maple tree in the garden, visit the palace and stop by one of the museums in the area. When you’re done exploring, you can also walk around the stone wall area outside the palace grounds for another perspective of the autumn foliage.
Seoraksan National Park
Love nature and hiking? Mt Seoraksan is a local’s favorite, with various hiking trails and sightseeing options to choose from. Aside from getting a workout while marveling at stunning fall foliage, you can also check out hot spring pools, temples and caves along the way. You can also hop into a cable car for excellent views!
Peep more striking autumn foliage in another palace in Seoul! Make sure you book ahead a slot for entry into the Secret Garden, a guided tour around the palace’s rear garden. It features a two-story pavilion that overlooks a small lily pond and a sprawling garden with numerous old trees.
Jeonju Hanok Village
Take the KTX from Seoul for a day trip to and visit the place where bibimbap originated! This city in western South Korea also takes pride in its hanok village, where you can find 735 traditional hanok houses, typically framed by golden fall foliage during the autumn season.
Bike or take a stroll around the charming Nami Island, with its towering, beautiful autumn trees. If you’re looking into something more adventurous, the island also offers water sports activities to burn off some energy.
