Why do you travel?
I travel a lot for work, so when I travel now it’s so I can discover something new about the world and myself. When I can, I travel with my Mum, who survived cancer, so that we can have quality time together and enjoy all that life has to offer.
What did you love most about your trip?
Loved the sites visited, especially because Batanes is a one-of-a-kind destination. The schedule was also great- was travelling with my Mum, and the schedule allowed us to enjoy all the sites and gave us sufficient time to rest for the next day.
What’s the one thing you won’t forget?
My Mum was amazed by Batanes that despite normally complaining about long walks or tough treks, she was leading the way and asking to see all the views. At Vayang Rolling Hills, instead of sitting with all the other senior citizens, she actually asked me to join her all the way to the end of the trail where she could see an amazing view from the top. I was so proud of her and so overwhelmed by how happy that made her.
What will you come back for in this trip?
Pizza from Pizza Napoli. Bar none. Would help if the guides gave a few more tips on where to eat- we discovered this on our own!
Did this trip inspire you in any way? How?
I travel a lot for work, and oftentimes pass off on going on holiday because I get so tired. Batanes reminded me of the passion I’ve always had for discovering the world with awe and gratitude.
Why do you think Filipinos should travel?
We forget how small the Philippines is in the context of the world, and traveling will allow us to have a view of our place in the world and how we can change it.
Any travel tips/hacks you’d like to share?
Some things I learned as a business traveler– On the plane: wear flexible/ soft clothes so it’s comfortable (tights, etc) and just change into whatever is appropriate at the port of arrival either on the plane, at the lounge, or the airport before exiting. This is especially because if you’re traveling coach/ premium economy, not all seats have allocated blankets! Moisturize with a serum in-flight cos the air on the plane is really drying, but also apply sunblock to make sure you’re ready for adventure even when you land from a red-eye. 🙂
Why did you choose to #travelwithaccess?
I follow Access Travel on Instagram – so I just tried to see whether they can help someone like me overseas arrange a trip with my Mum – especially cos I haven’t traveled with her in a year. Thanks for making that happen!
Any recommendations on how you think Access can improve to serve Filipinos better?
I live in Singapore, and it would be nice if you can reach out to us too. Filipinos arranging tours are really different from foreign companies- the hospitality is just different!
What are the places in your travel bucket list?
Looking forward to visit Spain and New York this year; Peru/ Colombia and New Zealand perhaps next year!
